HOW IS JULY OVER?! Anyways, here’s everything I read/watched!
Books
Bride by Ali Hazelwood - 4/5
I read the knotty (pun intended) vampire werewolf smut book and you know what?! I liked it so much more than I thought! The world was fun, there were some twists I didn’t see coming, and I overall just had a good time reading it!
GRIEF HORROR GRIEF HORROR I LOVE GRIEF HORROR! Some amazing parallels in this book and not so much scary as aching, but God I loved this!
Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay - 3/5
I wanted to like this so much more than I did. The script portions were very good, and the copy I borrowed from the library had sprayed red edges which I loved, but it just needed a little more oomph. Also the ending was disappointing.
A little too descriptive at times, but a very thoughtful, considerate, and honest look at modern-day Palestine by using themes from Hamlet.
An amazing short story collection that just hurts so much, though a few are very funny. A whole lot of heart in this collection, I hope to read more of Batiz’ work!
EMILY AUSTIN, I LOVE YOU! This is for those with Catholic trauma and anyone who’s ever felt they were unworthy because of the church. I’m OBSESSED with this poetry collection!
Thank you to River Street Writing for sending me this is book in exchange for an honest review! Connors newest poetry collection focus’ mainly on the Covid-19 pandemic and offers a glimpse back into that time of isolation, the start of the Black Lives Matter Movement, the rise of conservative politics in the States and Canada, but manages to have a thread of hope and faith throughout.
THE dark academia book, The Secret History was well worth the hype and I am so glad I finally got my hands on a copy of the book!
Movies
I Like Movies dir. Chandler Levack (2022) - 4/5
This movie is set in a city very close to me so that was very weird and cool to see, but also this movie is incredibly sad and good! Romina D'Ugo KILLS it in this though!
X dir. Ti West (2022) - 4/5
I watched Pearl last year and finally watched X so I could watch Maxxxine and really enjoyed X more than I thought because I loved Pearl! Wonderfully shot and fantastically bloody. I liked watching this trilogy in chronological order.
Longlegs dir. Osgood Perkins (2024) - 4.5/5
I ADORED Longlegs! Two great jump scares and absolutely unreal marketing. I loved piecing it all together and thought it was a wonderful movie, though I know some people will be let down by it.
MaXXXine dir. Ti West (2024) - 2/5
This was so bad. :”(
The Menu dir. Mark Mylod (2022) - 4/5
I LOVED this, a great dark comedy horror!
Inside Out 2 dir. Kelsey Mann (2024) - 4/5
This was such a fantastic sequel, look at Disney Pixar making kids aware of their anxiety at a young age instead of believing they’re just worriers for the first twenty-one years of their lives!
TV Shows
Season 3 started in SUCH A WILD WAY! Honestly there was a lot of unexpected things in season 3, and it’s always fun to see actors in here before they were famous like Rainn Wilson, Zachary Quinto, Josh Radnor, and some others I’m forgetting. But the really fun thing is watching it with your dad and having him spoil future episodes for you because it is his favourite show!
One Piece consistently manages to be one of the most fun shows I’m watching and I’m always surprised by it. I’m loving the Baroque works villains and happy to be introduced to David Dastmalchian’s character before the live action second season comes out!
